Beachy DIY

Today's post is a super fun diy! After Hurricane Sandy my beach house had to have the whole first floor redone. It looks great now, but I still thought it needed more decorating. I thought making some art for the house would be a great summer project. The materials you will need are a canvas (any size of your choice), sand, Mod Podge, acrylic paint (any colors of your choice), paintbrushes and hairspray. First I started by drawing the flip flop design on the canvas. I sketched two flip flops with polka dots on them leaving  space in the middle of them for the words. Then I used some acrylic paint to color it in. The paint colors I used were a sky blue, a hot pink and a sunny yellow. Next I painted on the words "PPB" which stands for Point Pleasant Beach on the left side. And I wrote "2015" on the right side to indicate the year. Point Pleasant Beach is where my beach house is and I have such great memories there with my family and friends this year. After that was all painted on with two coats I moved on to the sand part. Last time I was at the beach I collected two water bottles filled with sand from our usual spot on the beach. I thought it would have more meaning if the sand came from the beach that we go to, but you can buy sand from a craft store if its not easily accessible. Then I applied a thin layer of Mod Podge to different sections with a paint brush. I poured the sand right on using a red solo cup for more control. I used my fingers to pat in it, and after you are done with all your sections you are left with a beautiful textured artwork. Lastly I sprayed on some hairspray over the artwork to ensure that the sand would stick to the canvas for a log period of time. After that hang it up and enjoy!

                                                                                                                          Now that's charming..
